What makes you most proud of your time so far at Specsavers?
Being part of the team that initiated and implemented the Specsavers Support Officer Team Member Benefits portfolio is something I’m incredibly proud of. It’s really gratifying to know that Specsavers now offers a rewards and benefits package which allows us to attract the best talent in the marketplace.
What are the best things about your role?
The best thing about being a HR Business Partner is having the chance to work with such a diverse workforce. I enjoy spending my working day with a team who are as passionate about what they do as I am and care about people as much as I do.
I also love the fact that my role is constantly changing and throwing up new challenges. One day, I might be meeting new team members who are participating in our HR induction or interviewing candidates for an upcoming vacancy. The next I might be partnering with our heads of department to work on a people plan or organising a team building event to help teams work more effectively together.
How have you developed?
Since joining Specsavers back in 2010 as a graduate HR Administrator, I’ve moved between a number of different roles within the HR team. Each of them gave me an insight into a different part of the business and the various aspects of HR’s role. And together they proved to be the perfect preparation for the HR Business Partner role, I’m doing right now.
I focus on the Commercial side of the business, which means partnering with Finance, IT and Central Support. I'm responsible for building and maintaining partnerships across the Commercial business units to provide HR guidance, advice and support to managers and employees. I work closely with the commercial leadership team on the development of functional people plans which are closely aligned with the needs of the business and our overall people strategy.
At every stage of my journey so far, I’ve benefited from fantastic training, both on the Job and through internal and external courses. Specsavers have support me through my Masters Degree in HR Management and have also provided me with numerous Management and Leadership courses since.

I work with a range of inspirational HR practitioners, Learning & Development, Communication, Recruitment and Payroll specialists and a group of passionate and energetic receptionists.
Within HR, we’re quite an eclectic group, and to my mind that’s what makes us such a high performing team. We come from a variety of professional backgrounds, so when we’re looking at projects, initiatives and day-to-day issues, we bring different viewpoints and always come up with the best solution.
