What makes you most proud of your time so far at Specsavers?

When I see our range of frames in store, I feel immensely proud. It may be something others take for granted, but because I know how much hard work goes on behind the scenes to bring each collection together, seeing them all properly merchandised and looking great gives me a real buzz.

What are the best things about your role?

I think the best thing about my role is that it’s really dynamic and the challenges come thick and fast. Each day I’m working on something different, whether it’s helping stores with customer queries, preparing for new launches or working on merchandising pilots. The variety that makes it so exciting.

I also recently took part in a ‘Slave for the Day’ auction, which was terrific fun. Specsavers stores in each state placed bids to have members of the Support Office work with them in-store for the day, with all proceeds going to the Fred Hollows foundation. I met some fantastic people through this event and it gave me the chance to travel to a number of different states as well.

How have you developed?

I first joined Specsavers part-time as an Optical Assistant while I was a still studying and working in-store gave me a great insight into the front line of the business. It helped to develop my product knowledge and my understanding of what great customer service is all about.

Once I finished studying, I applied for temping role with the Business Development team at the Specsavers Support Office. Then after meeting with a number of different departments, I was offered a permanent role with the Product team and I haven’t looked back since.

I’ve had the chance to get involved with everything from monthly launches to range planning. I’d never worked in a corporate office before, but everyone has been really supportive in helping me find my feet, and appreciative of the work I’ve contributed so far.

I think that’s one of the great things about Specsavers as a business: it really encourages you to learn and grow. Since starting here, I’ve attended a number of different training courses, all of which have contributed to my development and ability to meet new challenges.

Describe the culture

The product team is unique. We all work very well together. Everyone is really supportive and focused on delivering the best products to our customers.

Why would you recommend a career at Specsavers?

Specsavers is a vibrant and dynamic business. We are always challenging ourselves to do better and deliver the best we can to our store partners. Our vision and values are not just words but an ideology we embrace on a day-to-day basis.

We respect one another and are not afraid to explore new ideas. But perhaps most importantly – and unlike some companies I’ve worked at in the past, where the focus is solely on sales and profit - at Specsavers the customer’s best interests are at the heart of the business.
