What makes you most proud of your time at Specsavers?

I am very proud when I look back and see how much I have learnt over the past three years and the tremendous impact that knowledge has had on helping customers on a regular basis. I am able to help our customers at any stage of their journey as well as guide and assist my team members do the same.

Working at Specsavers is not your typical retail job; you can really see the great results your guidance has on your team. I am incredibly proud to see how much our store has exceled within my directors first few years at the store and I have loved being a part of the continuing growth and achievements.

What are the best things about your role?

There are a lot of things I enjoy about my role. However one of the most enjoyable things would be using the training that Specsavers and my Directors have given me to guide customers through their Specsavers journey. Having this support has made me confident in not only knowing I have helped a customer leave the store as a satisfied and successful customer, but also in my role overall.

One of the best things about being a Supervisor is watching team members continue to succeed and become confident in their roles. Being a part of their journey and being able to assist them in any way they need is very rewarding.

How have you developed?

It has been an incredible journey. When I joined Specsavers in 2013 I started as a part time Optical Assistant with no knowledge or experience in the optics industry at all. Shortly into my career I changed from part time to full time and I was presented with the amazing opportunity to complete my Certificate IV in Optical Dispensing. I then moved into the position of a qualified Optical Dispenser.

I was then offered the opportunity to complete the Supervisor programme which allowed me to build on the knowledge I gained from my Certificate IV training. I developed my leadership skills and gained a thorough understanding on the inner workings of the company. This knowledge has allowed me to support my Directors and colleges in various different areas.

Describe the culture

We have a family type culture that creates a supportive, friendly and encouraging environment that allows each team member to not only enjoy their work but allows them to grow. Our culture allows the newer team members to learn skills shared by our senior staff members but also encourages existing staff to learn new skills from the newer team members as well. Our fun and friendly environment is not only enjoyed by our team members but also by our customers where we ensure a customer first approach is upheld in everything we do.
