If you like to be challenged but want to work in a friendly and supportive environment, I’d recommend it. Specsavers is the kind of company where you can really work your way up if that’s what you want. I think of it as a fairly small company with a global reach and a big heart.

What makes you most proud of your time so far at Specsavers?

I moved to Melbourne from the UK for my current role, but I’ve also travelled to Finland, New Zealand and Hong Kong with Specsavers. We have such a diverse, global company and it’s always fascinating to find out new things about how the different regional offices and operations work.

What are the best things about your role?

The best thing about my role is working in the Melbourne office – I love it here. I’ve had a lot of support from the company in terms of relocating from the UK, and the people are great. The other good things about working for Specsavers include the opportunities available for career growth, travel, training, and just being able to have fun at work. We spend so much time working, and I don’t think I would have stayed at a company this long if I didn’t have so much fun along the way.

Being a manager is also very rewarding – I love that I have made a positive difference to others’ careers and seen them go on to creating their own successful careers at Specsavers. That makes my job worthwhile and very rewarding.

How have you developed?

Specsavers has been fantastic for my own career – I started by answering IT support calls from UK stores in Southampton, and now I’m a Portfolio Manager working in Melbourne. I’ve had professional training as well as internal support and mentoring. All of my career goals have been met through working in Specsavers.

Describe the culture

I work in a very friendly and supportive IT team – with colleagues who have moved here from all over the world including the UK, New Zealand, India, Sri Lanka, Mexico, Malaysia and Holland. Each year we celebrate Diwali and the whole team dresses up in traditional Indian costumes. We also have team building and social events, and are planning our annual end of year IT BBQ.

Specsavers is a very friendly and social company, and has always been fun to work for. The company has a strong corporate social responsibility and is passionate about looking after its employees. If you are willing to demonstrate passion and enthusiasm for your role, Specsavers will invest in you.
