Working with the right people definitely helps both in-store and out. Having the mountain of people at the Support Office who can get things done is unbelievable. I’ve never seen an optometry company so involved in customer service.

What does being a Joint Venture Partner mean to you?

Before I joined Specsavers as a Partner, I enjoyed my job as an Optometrist. However, I just wanted more. One of my most rewarding moments in my career was signing my final partnership paperwork for the Specsavers store at the Glen. I got the location I wanted with the people I wanted.

It’s very rewarding seeing people working for you and reaching new ground both with their career but also personally. I’d say to anyone considering joining the Specsavers Joint Venture Partnership to just do it. You won’t look back as you’ll be too busy running forward.

How has Specsavers helped you in becoming a successful JVP?

Both of my previous employers were very proactive in pushing me towards my own store. They gave me full access to all aspects of the business and valued my input.

Working with the right people definitely helps both in-store and out. Having the mountain of people at the Support Office who can get things done is unbelievable.

What does a typical day look like?

I have two aspects to a typical day. The first is related to the ongoing running and plans of our store in getting us to where we want to be in five years. The second is related to seeing customers. With this I believe in resetting the clock, start anew and don’t let the issues of yesterday get in the way of today.

How would you describe the culture of your store?

We certainly have a diverse group of people in our store and we try to instil an air of family. We like to have a joke and a laugh but know when it’s time to work.

What makes Specsavers so successful?

In terms of their JVPs, the support is unbelievable. It’s also helpful how much Specsavers really value their “core values”. I’ve never seen an optometry company so involved in customer service.
