What makes you most proud of your time at Specsavers?

Being a part of a company that has experienced exceptional growth in our short history in Australia and New Zealand is extremely rewarding. I started in June 2009 when the ‘100 doors in 100 days’ rollout occurred, a big challenge that we accomplished with great success!

I started as the only Accounts Payable person with a portfolio of around 40 stores, to now leading a team of Accounts Payable Officers who are responsible for over 300 stores is a great achievement and I am proud to have been a part of this success. Everyone at Specsavers works to a common goal and it is easier for knowledge to be shared and passed on.

What are the best things about your role?

The best thing about my role is being able to build relationships with stores and suppliers. This allows me to assess areas that need improvement and to think about how we can evolve. Retail businesses are always changing, and the same can be said for the finance teams within.  We need to be able to think outside the box to make sure we keep our team motivated each day. Seeing your team develop and grow in their roles is really rewarding for me.

How have you developed?

I began my career at Specsavers as an Accounts Payable Officer in June 2009. I was responsible for around 40 store accounts. As we began to open more stores, I was then promoted to Stores Accounts Payable Team Leader in 2010, then Store Accounts Payable Supervisor – ANZ in 2014, leading the Australian and New Zealand accounts teams.

I have learnt so much in my 7 years, from how we can help store partners to what we can do to improve within the team.  Technology and systems are constantly evolving and being able to stay current and learn accounting skills along the way has helped give me a great all-round view of the work we do, and how it is interpreted by our customers.

Describe the culture

Finance in any workplace can be a tough world, but the team we have here at Specsavers is friendly, hard-working but most importantly, we promote a great work/life balance.  We place a high level of expectation on the work we produce for our stores, and this is something every member of the team take pride in every day.

Why would you recommend a career at Specsavers?

There is always something new to learn every day here at Specsavers.  Working within a retail success story, you are able to meet partners of our stores, department directors and suppliers who all help you to achieve your goals.  Having all our departments here under one roof at Support Office, gives you an insight as to how the business is run and why we are successful.
