What makes you most proud of your time at Specsavers?
I have been able to see my team members develop and grow, both in their abilities and in their confidence and know that I have been a part of that progression. I take pride in their achievements and enjoy being their mentor. At the same time, I’m working for a company whose values I share, selling a product I believe in and can feel passionate about.
What are the best things about your role?
My role is constantly challenging. Whenever you’re dealing with customers you need to be able to always adapt depending on who’s in front of you. There are also many technical aspects to the role and the industry is dynamic so, even after over 7 years here, I still feel like I’m learning. Most importantly, the challenges of leading and supporting a large team of diverse individuals with different goals, different capabilities and challenges of their own are enough to keep anyone on their toes. As a person who’s always on the lookout for a challenge, I find this very exciting.
How have you developed?
Wow, in so many ways. There’s the obvious things like feeling confident in my dispensing skills and knowing that I make the right recommendations for my customers to have the best results they can. I’ve also been able to (mostly) overcome my fear of selling products to customers even though I know they need them. The big thing for me, though, has been the ongoing effort to better my team interaction and, more recently, leadership skills to ensure I’m the leader my team needs me to be in order to function at their best.

There are lots of avenues that staff members can make it their own and, at the end of it, we’re just a bunch of people having a good time.
