What makes you most proud of your time at Specsavers?
Working in an environment that makes such an impact on our customers’ lives is such a rewarding feeling. Watching customers become more confident over time in wearing glasses and wear them with pride makes me very proud to be a part of Specsavers. Knowing I can make a customer excited in expressing their personalities and help build their self-esteem is very fulfilling. Building a great rapport with customers makes the days more enjoyable.
The way I've grown personally is something I'll always be proud of. I’ve grown from such a quiet, shy person to someone who's not afraid to give anything a go, not only inside work but outside also. I am no longer scared to tackle any challenge but I also recognise when I need help and I have come to realise it is not a weakness to ask for assistance.
What are the best things about your role?
Working in a small shopping centre in a small town area means that my team has a close bond and we get to know our customers very well. This fun and bubbly atmosphere has created a great environment to work in, that is comfortable and supportive for both the staff and customers.
I enjoy having a close relationship with our customers and when customers are in the centre they're often popping in to wave or say hello on their way past. Being involved in their experience is a great feeling, especially when they have such confidence in you. My favourite responsibility would be teaching customers how to use contact lenses as they put their trust in you with something that can be quite terrifying for them. I really value the bonds I make with my customers and feel an enormous sense of achievement when I can help somebody.
How have you developed?
Working in retail allows you to gain some amazing experience and highly transferable skills that are valuable in any sector. Working with a company so focused on great customer service has given me the chance to spend every day interacting with customers and improve upon my communication skills. I've learnt to be helpful, but genuine as well as friendly yet efficient. I've had the opportunity to work with such a diverse group of people, allowing me to experience working with a mixture of personality groups. Since working for Specsavers I now have the ability to problem solve efficiently and think on my feet, resulting in effective time management skills and an ability to stay calm in stressful situations.
Describe the culture.
In my store we are a close knit team and we utilise each other’s expertise to meet challenges together. The culture of the store is dictated by the director who is encouraging and believes in supportive learning. Creating such a fun, happy environment is recognised by our customers which in return results in them being relaxed and happy.
