Graduate Optometrist

Specsavers will give you the opportunity to use all the skills you have developed during your University degree. Our Graduate Program is structured and ensures you start practicing optometry supported by an in-store mentor.

Key information

When you first join Specsavers as a Graduate Optometrist, you will be part of a two-year development program that is specifically designed for recently qualified Optometrists. This will give you the opportunity to participate in a combination of professional events, courses and experiences that will enrich your professional life. As a whole, it capitalises on the collective knowledge and experience of our in-store optometry partners and the Specsavers Professional Development team.

This allows you to begin working with customers and further developing your optometry skills with maximum support from mentors and the clinical team. You will also receive on-going training and development opportunities and the chance to refine and grow your clinical and business skills.

Customer Consultation

Consultations with customers to conduct sight tests and best value eyecare will be a key element of your role. The broad range of patients you will become experienced caring for is crucial to your development. You will always have access to the full range of high quality optometry equipment including digital retinal cameras, tonometers, slit lamps, keratometers, ophthalmoscopes and retinoscopes.

Dispensing

To add to your knowledge and experience, you will also spend some of your time working with the Dispensing team and the Retail Joint Venture Partner within the store. This will give you a rounded understanding of a Specsavers store, the customer journey and the products we offer our customers.

Specialist visits

Quarterly external visitations to other professionals involved in eycare are part of the two-year structured Specsavers Graduate Program. This includes local Ophthalmologists, hospitals or other clinics.
