Our business

Discover more about our past, present and future: where the idea for Specsavers came from; where the business is today; and where you could help us take things in the future.

Specsavers is a Partnership of nearly 2,000 locally-run businesses, committed to delivering high quality, affordable optical care in the communities they serve.

Our success

Our success globally

Today, the Specsavers Partnership enjoys global success. With more than 1,700 stores and in 10 countries, we are the world’s largest optical retailer.

Each business operates as a Joint Venture Partnership, meaning the stores are part-owned and managed by its directors. They are supported by centralised teams of specialists within our Support Offices in areas such as Marketing, Accounting, IT and Supply Chain.

Our growth in Australia and New Zealand

In 2007, we launched in the Australian market as a wholesale business. In 2008, we became a retailer, opening 100 stores in 100 days across Australia. In the same year we went on to open our first stores in New Zealand.

The Australian and New Zealand business has continued to grow with over 350 stores now operating across the ANZ network. We have also got the largest optical manufacturing facility in the Southern Hemisphere, which opened in Port Melbourne in 2009.

Specsavers in numbers

To understand the scale and scope of our business, here are some interesting figures: In 2013/14, we sold some 15.4 million frames and 380 million contact lenses worldwide. We now have over 2,700 Specsavers Partners around the world, benefiting from the joint venture partnership model pioneered by Doug and Mary Perkins over 30 years ago. Specsavers continues to go from strength to strength. In 2013/14 alone, we saw a 7.8% increase in our total revenues.

Our locations

The Specsavers Support Office ensures that every Specsavers store receives the best possible support at all times. This includes guidance from specialised areas such as Business Development, Manufacturing, Finance, Training, Marketing and Payroll etc.

Australia

The main Specsavers Support Office is located in Melbourne and is also home to two manufacturing sites. Specsavers also has training offices located in New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia. This ensures we can provide support to our store teams on a local level.

New Zealand

The New Zealand Support and training offices are located in Auckland.
